Quote for the Week

There is no passion to be found playing small - in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.

Hi everybody and let me check in with some news about a friend of The Wall/Las Memorias. It's been some time since Rev. Brian Doran visited the Mens Group, but he remains in firm support of our community. He recently wrote a Letter to the Editor at The Tidings, the official newspaper of the L.A. Catholic Archdiocese. He pointed out that in one of their recent film reviews, the comments about a current French film were generally positive but ended with:"a few rough and crude expletives,a lesbian character and an unethical act." Brian notes that, although in the review the lesbian character is not accused of using the bad language or acting unethically, the information that she is lesbian, because it is sandwiched between two character flaws, seems to be intended as a negative comment. Brian then makes this point: insomuch as the U.S. Bishops Conference states that those who have inclinations to the same gender are "disordered", then the Tidings film reviewer seems to be following the lead of the bishops. Brian says that, while it may be too harsh to accuse the bishops of outright demonizing gays & lesbians, at least the bishops should be held responsible for any "trickle-down" effects of their pronouncements.
I think Brian deserves our resounding and loving applause for speaking up against discrimination, even if it emanates from the bishops, and even if it is printed in the Archdiocesan newspaper. We love you Brian! You totally rock! (Can I get amen on that one?) Thanks!
